Zero
Delta is a unified methodology for enterprise alignment.
The methodology combines into a unified structure the
practices of enterprise design,
architecture, engineering, and management.
Zero Delta addresses the entire strategy-to-execution
lifecycle.
A
primary design objective of the Zero Delta methodology
is to establish a series of unified methods that are
designed to enable an organization to achieve alignment
and integration across the enterprise while
simultaneously optimize value creation opportunities.
The methodology addresses matters of enterprise
strategy, operations, risk, architecture, governance,
and performance management.
Zero
Delta incorporates many widely-accepted 'best practice'
approaches vis-a-vis strategy formulation and initiative
and programme execution. There exist many examples
and formal write-ups of the methods contained within the
methodology.
Zero
Delta is based upon a four-phase structure. Zero
Delta is implemented in an iterative fashion, and can
support both top-down and bottom-up implementation
approaches.
Enterprise Design - Represents the detailed
expression of strategic intent and strategic objectives
vis-a-vis a standardized modeling language and model
structures (domain-specific views).
Enterprise Architecture - Represents the
specific ways in which enterprise designs are
'architected' according to the organization models,
process models, and technology models of the enterprise
(domain-specific views are integrated into enterprise
views).
Enterprise Engineering - Represents the
transitioning of design models and architecture
blueprints into initiative and programme roadmaps that
are executed throughout the enterprise in realization of
the enterprise strategy.
Enterprise Management - Represents roadmap
management and performance management to ensure that
specific metrics and targets identified during the
enterprise design phase are realized through initiative
and programme execution efforts.
Realizing that there are inherent
relationships between and among the various
elements of an enterprise is the first step
towards understanding how to solve the challenge
of aligning and integrating the enterprise.
At the core, we believe that a
high-performance state is realized when an
organization aligns its strategic intents and
objectives with the initiatives and day-to-day
activities that take place across every part of
the enterprise.
However, this isn’t accomplished
simply by setting a strategy and then performing
actions.
The strategy needs to be formulated in light of
macro- and micro-economic fluctuations,
geographical and political environments, and
changing competitive and market activities.
Add to this the need to simultaneously address
risk, governance, internal and external
constraints, and the organization’s ability to
execute and it readily becomes apparent that
there is a need to address this in a coordinated
manner.
Zero Delta represents a new and
comprehensive way to address this critical
lifecycle.Zero Delta is ‘smarts’ combined with
innovative technology and support tools whichare designed to help an enterprise
achieve a high-performance status.
Zero Delta is a comprehensive
methodology that takes into account strategy,
risk, capital resources, priorities, the element
of time, governance, initiatives, and
performance management – coalescing each of
these elements into a cohesive whole.
METHOD &
PROCESS STRUCTURE
Zero Delta
incorporates methods and approaches commonly found in model
theory and decision theory. While Zero Delta addresses matters
of enterprise complexity, it’s practice and implementation is
quite simple.
Zero Delta is
based upon a four-phase, iterative process designed to fully integrate and
align the strategic intents and objectives of the enterprise
with their corresponding initiative counterparts. The Zero Delta
process is designed to:
Establish
an unbreakable bond between strategy and execution by tying
the practices of strategy formulation with initiative
execution;
Link
strategic objectives, goals, and milestones with initiative
and program level objectives, goals, and milestones;
Fully
align the global enterprise by ensuring that strategy and
execution are defined and structured in a common way –
across geographic and organization boundaries;
Provide
the organization with a consistent framework by which it can
organize important information related to the strategy and
execution efforts of the organization. Zero Delta creates a
highly valuable form of intellectual property vis-à-vis the
historical, current, and future strategies of an
organization;
Integrate
the aspects of conceptual strategies to operational
strategies and their corresponding initiatives counterparts;
Provide a
modeling construct and visual representation system through
which ideas, facts, and arguments can be consistently
structured and shared throughout the enterprise;
